Why Does the Kitten Vomit

June 14, 2023

As cat owners, we tend to feel worried and confused when we see them vomiting. There can be many reasons why a cat vomits, and here are some common explanations.

Overeating

Cats sometimes overeat, causing an upset stomach and vomiting. This can be due to eating too fast or eating food that is not suitable for them. To avoid this, divide your cat's food into several feedings, or choose a high-quality cat food that is suitable for them. And provide a bowl of water closed to the food box, so that the cat can eat water when it get chocked. Thus, not only can this make a cat eat healthily, but also reduces and lowers the vomiting possibility.

Hairballs

Cats often clean themselves and swallow some when they lick their fur. These hairs may form hairballs in the stomach, causing vomiting. It is known to all that after days’ roaming, the cats’ fur must be full of bacteria and dust. To reduce hairball formation, brush your cat's fur regularly or add some specialized hairball inhibitor to their food.

Food Allergies or Intolerances

Some cats are allergic or intolerant to certain foods or ingredients, causing indigestion and vomiting. If food is suspected to be the cause of the problem, you can try to change the brand of cat food or choose a special sensitive gastrointestinal formula of cat food.

Digestive Problems

Cats may vomit due to digestive problems such as gastritis, stomach ulcers, or gastroenteritis. These problems can be caused by infection, inflammation or other diseases. If your cat vomits frequently or has other symptoms, you should seek medical attention.

Parasitic Infections

Certain parasitic infections, such as roundworms or tapeworms, can cause your cat to vomit. Regular deworming can help prevent this. And regularly cleaning the cat’s nest and surroundings is necessary, because parasites are commonly seen in those areas and places.

Over-excited or Anxious

Cats may vomit when they are nervous, anxious or excited. This may be due to an upset stomach caused by emotions. Providing a quiet and comfortable environment, as well as proper caressing and attention, can help reduce the occurrence of this.

In summary, the reasons why cats vomit can be many and varied. Sometimes it's due to overeating or hairballs, while other times it can be due to food allergies, digestive problems, parasitic infections or emotional issues. If your cat vomits frequently, with other symptoms, or for a long time, consult your veterinarian for professional advice and treatment.
